The Literacy Association of Tennessee promotes a literate society by bringing together a network of people dedicated to sharing knowledge and information about literacy through programs and services.

Purpose
To form a partnership with the International Literacy Association by promoting membership and participating in ILA sponsored council activities.
To encourage the study of reading problems at all educational levels.
To stimulate & promote research in developmental, creative, corrective & remedial reading.
To study the various factors that influence progress in reading.
To publish the results of pertinent and significant factors that influence progress in reading.
To assist in the development of improved teacher-training programs.
To act as a clearinghouse for information relating to reading.
To disseminate knowledge helpful for solving problems related to reading.
To sponsor conferences and meetings.
The Literacy Association of Tennessee is a state chapter of the International Literacy Association.
